DIY: wall hanging

I'm kinda in love with this wall hanging, tbh.

My friend Alaina and I were just about to head into finals week and wanted to find something to take away some stress. We found someone Alaina knew from home who made these wall hangings and sold them (@stringsandthings.lh on Instagram). We drove over to Hobby Lobby after looking through her page for some inspiration and bought the yarn, dowels, and twine needed to complete our pre-finals week project:)

I bought a total of 5 skeins of yarn in different colors, sizes, and textures in order to achieve the look I was going for.

In total, I believe I spent around $21 on the entire project.

I started by measuring 4ft of yarn (you'll end up folding it over later so it'll be about 2ft in the end), cut it off, and used it as a guide to measure and cut the rest of the yarn. I started off counting how many strands were in each chunk of yarn but I grew tired of counting and ended up just eyeballing it and did whatever felt right. Remember, you're folding all your 4ft pieces in half so don't make them too thick.

Once I was finished cutting my yarn, I folded it in half and created a slip knot (I think that's what it's called) and tied them around the dowel. I did this with all my varying chunks of yarn until I filled the dowel to my liking.

I left the bottom of mine pretty messy since I like the look of it that way but you could trim it into a "V" shape or straight across, too.

I had some extra yarn and an extra foot of dowel (the dowel was 4ft but I cut it to 3) so I made a small one to hang on my door back at school!

Making both of the hangings took close to 4 hours to make but then again, I was doing this with Alaina and we were talking and taking a few breaks here and there.

I really like this DIY cause it can be made to your liking so no two will be the same! I used more neutral and mauve-y colored yarn cause that's just what matches my dorm at the moment but you can use whatever colors you want;)

I also made a few pom-poms from even more leftover yarn and tied them to the dowel to add a little pizzazz and braided some of the yarn together to add a little variation.

I know I'm bad at explaining how to do stuff but I hope you learned something from this DIY and maybe even try it out yourself! It's really relaxing especially if you put on some worship or instrumental music!!

XOXOXOXO,

Madison
